The prohibited list
Hazardous waste, liquid paint, motor oil, solvents, tires, car batteries, propane tanks, asbestos, medical waste and anything containing refrigerant cannot go in a roll-off container.
These are not our rules — transfer stations reject the entire load, which turns into a return trip and a charge nobody wants.
Where each item goes
Suffolk and Nassau both run regular household hazardous waste collection days for paint, chemicals and batteries. Tires go to most auto shops for a small fee. Propane tanks can be exchanged at any refill dealer.
Refrigerators and AC units need certified refrigerant recovery first — we can arrange it, just tell us in advance.
Dry latex paint is the exception
Latex paint that has been fully dried out with hardener or kitty litter is accepted as ordinary solid waste. Leave the lid off so it is visibly solid.
